A Long Winter's Nap
November 9, 2009
It’s not too late to provide winter protection for outdoor plants. Remember that evergreen boughs make good winter cover for outdoor plants, especially perennials. When the Christmas tree comes down, use those branches to protect your plants until the ground warms up in spring.
Roses and shrubs could also use some extra mulching for winter. Coldest areas especially will require medium to heavy protection for roses, depending on the variety. Burlap, cardboard or commercially available rose cones will provide warmth and wind defense without causing premature winter growth.
