Tips for Organizing
December 22, 2009
January is a big organizing time of year for me. I start with sorting the holiday decorations and items into tubs. If you are still using cardboard boxes then look for sales on 18 or 22 gallon plastic tubs and switch over! They are easy to handle and protect things so much better. You can tape lists to the lids with an "inventory" or simply letter code them for the holidays.
The year is new and it's time to be honest with ourselves! Go through your clothes, in fact, ALL the family clothing, and be honest about what fits, what doesn't and what's been sitting there way too long without being worn. Sort through everything and donate what you don't need to a local shelter or mission. Anything warm for winter is really needed right now. As long as we're on a roll, have the kids sort through their books and toys as well. This is a good lesson for them in giving and appreciating what they have. Next, go through your kitchen. If you were given new dishes for Christmas, consider donating the old ones to charity; the same with appliances.
Doing this type of organizing and sorting is a great way to start the year off. You organize and help others at the same time!
