Winter Compost
September 29, 2009
Don't forget your compost pile this winter. Most households actually increase their output of compostable household garbage during winter (especially during the holidays - the compost pile might even be a good place to hide that fruitcake). Unless the pile is frozen solid, continue to add material. Moisture and air are key components when making compost. If you live in a warm area, continue to turn the pile regularly. In cold regions, keep the heat in with a layer of leaves or straw and turn in the spring.
